Contradiction Detection

Find and resolve conflicting information in your knowledge base

Contradictions occur when your knowledge base contains conflicting statements. Goldilocks uses AI to detect these conflicts so you can resolve them and ensure consistent, accurate responses.

Accessing Contradictions

Contradictions are managed in the Quality Center:

  1. Navigate to Train in the sidebar
  2. Click Quality in the sub-navigation
  3. Scroll to the Contradiction Detection section

How Contradiction Detection Works

  1. AI analyzes your documents and FAQs
  2. Statements are compared for logical consistency
  3. Potential conflicts are flagged for review
  4. You review and resolve each contradiction

What Gets Detected

Examples of contradictions:

  • "Returns accepted within 30 days" vs "Returns accepted within 14 days"
  • "Free shipping on orders over $50" vs "Free shipping on orders over $100"
  • "Available 24/7" vs "Support hours: 9am-5pm"

What Doesn't Get Detected

The AI may not catch:

  • Subtle implications
  • Context-dependent statements
  • Information gaps (missing info isn't contradiction)

Reviewing Contradictions

Each detected contradiction shows:

Source Information

  • Source A - First piece of content with conflicting statement
  • Source B - Second piece of content with conflicting statement
  • Document Links - Click to view full source documents

Conflict Summary

AI-generated explanation of what's contradictory and why it matters.

Resolution Options

  • Keep A - Mark Source A as correct
  • Keep B - Mark Source B as correct
  • Edit - Modify either source to resolve the conflict
  • Dismiss - Mark as not a real contradiction

Resolving Contradictions

Step 1: Review Both Sources

Click to view each source document. Understand the full context of each statement.

Step 2: Determine Truth

Decide which source is:

  • More current
  • More authoritative
  • Actually correct

Step 3: Take Action

If one source is correct:

  1. Click Keep A or Keep B
  2. Edit the incorrect source to fix or remove the conflicting statement
  3. Or set the incorrect source to Draft status

If both need updating:

  1. Click Edit on each source
  2. Update both to be consistent
  3. Return and click Resolve

If it's not a real contradiction:

  1. Click Dismiss
  2. Optionally add a note explaining why

Step 4: Verify

After resolving:

  1. Check that both sources now agree
  2. Test with a search query
  3. Verify AI responses are consistent

Running Scans

Automatic Scans

Contradiction detection may run automatically based on your plan settings.

Manual Scans

To run a scan manually:

  1. Click Run Scan in the Contradiction panel
  2. Wait for analysis to complete (may take a few minutes)
  3. Review any new contradictions found

Scan Limits

Contradiction scanning uses AI processing credits:

  • Check the usage indicator for remaining scans
  • Limits reset based on your billing cycle
  • Higher plans include more scans

Best Practices

Regular Scanning

Run contradiction scans:

  • After bulk content imports
  • Monthly for ongoing maintenance
  • After major policy changes

Prevent Contradictions

Avoid contradictions by:

  • Single source of truth for each topic
  • Regular content audits
  • Clear content ownership
  • Update all related docs when policies change

Document Resolutions

Keep track of:

  • Which source was authoritative
  • Why the decision was made
  • Who approved the resolution

Review Dismissed Items

Periodically review dismissed contradictions:

  • Were they correctly dismissed?
  • Have circumstances changed?
  • Should they be re-evaluated?

Common Contradiction Types

Date/Time Conflicts

Different timeframes for same policy:

"30-day return window" vs "14-day return window"

Resolution: Find current policy and update outdated docs.

Price Conflicts

Different prices for same item/service:

"$9.99/month" vs "$12.99/month"

Resolution: Update to current pricing across all mentions.

Availability Conflicts

Different hours or availability:

"24/7 support" vs "Business hours only"

Resolution: Clarify what's actually available.

Process Conflicts

Different steps for same process:

"Email support@company.com" vs "Submit ticket through dashboard"

Resolution: Decide which is preferred and update accordingly.
